COVID-19 Safety Guide
Protecting our visitors and employees

Summary of key safety strategies

The health and safety of our staff, volunteers and visitors is our top priority as we welcome people to Sovereign Hill. Our COVID Safe Plan has been developed in line with all federal and state government regulations and has been designed to protect all staff and visitors from potential exposure to COVID-19.

  • In line with Victorian Government requirements, visitors aged eight years and over are required to wear a mask in all indoor areas unless an approved exception applies. For those with legal mask exemptions, we welcome you to Sovereign Hill but note that some experiences (including Quartz Mine tours) may be offered in an amended form. Feel free to contact us pre-arrival for more information via

Please book your Sovereign Hill ticket online. If you are unable to book online, please contact us on 03 5337 1100.

Before leaving home, check our website for latest updates and information. Please be ready to make on-site payments using a contactless bank card rather than cash where possible. If you feel unwell or have any cold or flu-like symptoms, please stay home and visit another day. Please contact our Bookings team at to change your booking if needed.

Physical distancing
We have clear markers to help you maintain a safe, 1.5 metre distance from others. We have also adapted or suspended some experiences and facilities to ensure that physical distancing is suitably maintained.

To ensure that we comply with physical distancing measures, please do not approach staff or volunteers too closely for photos. We are happy to be in a photo, but with just a little more distance than usual. Please do not remove your face mask when having your photo taken.

Eating and drinking
All food and beverage facilities have been set up so we can keep the appropriate distance between people. Whilst seated to eat or drink you may remove your face mask. Please place your face mask back on once you have finished.

Separate visitors on passenger vehicles
We will run our horse drawn coach experience with single group or single passenger bookings so that visitors can stay at a safe distance.

Demonstrations and guided experiences
Visitors viewing entertainment such as outdoor performances or demonstrations should stay 1.5 metres from other visitors. Group sizes viewing outdoor performances will be reduced.

Providing Hand Sanitisation Stations throughout the Museum
All staff and volunteers will use the supplied hand sanitiser before entering the workplace. Hand sanitisation stations have been installed at entry points as directed. We have sanitisation stations throughout the outdoor museum offering free hand sanitisers.

Increased sanitisation and disinfecting services across Sovereign Hill
We have introduced enhanced cleaning measures including disinfecting high frequency touch points, such as tables and chairs, service counters, grab and flush handles, door handles/plates, EFTPOS machines and taps.

Toilet and baby change rooms
We have increased cleaning and disinfecting of all toilets including accessible toilets and baby change room facilities.

Coach rides
At the end of the experience, staff will spray and wipe down the seats and hand holds with disinfectant before the next visitor enters.

Encourage hand sanitisation when participating in rides and experiences
We will provide and encourage the use of hand sanitisers prior to carriage rides.

Eliminate self-service cutlery, napkin and condiment stations
Napkins, knives, forks, spoons, sugar, sauce, salt and pepper and takeaway coffee cup lids will be safely stored and served upon request.

All food items are shielded from visitors
All unpackaged food will be displayed safely away from contact in glass cabinets.

Pre-visit check-In
If you have pre-booked your entry ticket to attend Sovereign Hill or any of our experiences or have made a reservation at the Sovereign Hill Hotel, you will receive information before your visit on how to stay safe and enjoy your experience by following the basic physical distancing and hygiene guidelines.

Display physical distancing and hygiene signage
