Students meet The Pern Collection, an eclectic mix of over 1000 artefacts sourced from around the globe, by Dr Sydney Pern. It includes examples of some of the oldest known stone artefacts in the world as well as wooden objects, basketry and taxidermy animals and represents a typical gentleman collector’s collection. This program introduces students broadly to the type of cultural heritage material relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the historical information these objects represent and the physical and ethical challenges of appropriately caring for and sharing this material.
