Experience our collections throughout the year

To ensure we are able to inspire future generations, we've created a program of activities that are accessible to the public and school children all year round.

Every week, we host Back of house Collections tours which give you a close up and personal experience with our hidden treasures. The group sizes for these tours are small and bookings are essential.

For schools, we have developed a curriculum aligned learning program that exposes the physical objects we have in our collections and encourages connections between past and present.

Back of house collection tours

Come behind the scenes and get up close with hidden treasures on our special back-of-house tours. From Loong, Australia’s oldest processional dragon, to artwork by celebrated Wadawurrung artist Aunty Marlene Gilson, our expert guides will share with you the stories and objects hidden within the museum.

School Programs

Our curriculum aligned object-based learning programs bring students behind the scenes into our collections spaces and allows learners to observe, question, research and interpret from our collection of over 150,000 objects. Our programs integrate authentic or replica objects creating connections between the past, present, shining a light on how we lived, how we have changed and how we think about the future.
