Daily activities

To ensure visitor and staff safety, some elements of the experience at Sovereign Hill have changed for now.

All sites and programs of the Sovereign Hill Museum are temporarily closed to the public until further notice.

We have reduced capacity at some of our dining venues. Some venues will be available for takeaway only. The Hope Bakery will be selling our famous sausage rolls and more, while the New York Bakery will provide great indoor dining, with table service only. Our café will not be selling food or drink, but will be a comfortable space for you to eat takeaway food bought at site or food you’ve brought from home.

Social distancing means photography at Sovereign Hill will be a little different for a while. Our Costumed Interpreters are happy to be in your photos but we ask that visitors do not get too close. Our photography session at the Red Hill Photographers will not be able to be booked just yet.

Enclosed visitor experiences

Some of our experiences – such as the coach rides, the gold pour, our Confectionary Factory and Quartz Mine – will be operating, but at reduced capacity. Red Hill Photography is closed for now and so is the Empire Bowling Saloon.

While you can visit our Confectionary Factory and Candle Makers, our hands-on Sweet Experience and Candle Making sessions are not open for bookings yet. Candle Dipping will be available. When you book, you’ll get a welcome pack so you can start planning your day at our living museum.

You can still enjoy our iconic experiences throughout the day – performances in the gracious Victoria Theatre, the marching in parade of the Red Coats, hands-on panning for gold in the Diggings – but our staff will be monitoring crowd sizes and making sure that we have plenty of space for everyone. Check the daily timings of our highlight experiences when you arrive to get in early!

If you have other questions please visit Our Guide to re-opening – we may have an answer for your question ready and waiting.
